Equity means creating an inclusive world where everyone feels a sense of belonging and is given equal opportunities, regardless of their gender or other differences. It’s important to note that equity is different from equality. Equality assumes that everyone starts from the same place and receives the same resources, which doesn’t account for systemic disadvantages and discrimination that certain groups face. Equity recognizes these disparities and aims to provide targeted support to level the playing field.
“Equality is giving everyone a shoe. Equity is giving everyone a shoe that fits.” – Susan K Gardner
As individuals, we all have a role to play in embracing equity. We can challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion in our personal and professional lives. We can also support women’s rights and gender equity initiatives by donating, volunteering, or advocating for change.
But it’s not just up to women to fight for gender equity. Allies are crucial in creating a more equitable world. Men, non-binary individuals, and other groups can all play a part in supporting gender equity initiatives and dismantling the systems that perpetuate inequality.
As a company, we – Gregory Jewellers- are committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and in the wider community. We recognize the importance of gender equity and are taking steps to ensure that everyone, regardless of gender, feels valued and respected.
By taking a stand for gender equity and supporting initiatives that promote inclusivity, we – Gregory Jewellers- are setting an example for other companies to follow. Demonstrating that every organization, no matter how big or small, can make a difference in creating a more equitable world.
This International Women’s Day let’s all commit to fully embracing equity in all its forms. Let’s value and support difference, encourage others to do the same, and work collectively towards a more equal world.
We can all be part of the solution, and together, we can make a difference.
