This year’s Watches and Wonders event is seeing many brands taking a fresh approach to their timepieces, with a focus on revisiting classic designs or building on recent successes. This year’s Watches and Wonders event has demonstrated an exciting blend of heritage and innovation that’s sure to captivate watch enthusiasts worldwide. By reimagining timepieces that have stood the test of time and exploring new horizons, brands are offering something for everyone, whether you’re a die-hard collector or a casual admirer of fine craftsmanship. It’s a testament to the versatility and enduring appeal of watches, and a reminder of the boundless possibilities that lie ahead.
TAG Heuer
TAG Heuer’s new releases at Watches & Wonders 2023 were centred around celebrating the 60th anniversary of the iconic Carrera collection. The Carrera collection is one of the most recognisable and popular collections from TAG Heuer, and the brand did not disappoint with its latest offerings.
The Carrera collection, a legendary chronograph, was first introduced in 1963 by Jack Heuer, the great-grandson of the brand’s founder. Since then, the collection has undergone several iterations, with each one more stylish and innovative than the last. At Watches & Wonders, TAG Heuer showcased the latest models of the Carrera collection, and they were nothing short of breath-taking.

It was a refreshing to see the brand flaunt its Techniques d’Avant-Garde, (the acronym for TAG), with the stunning showcase release of the Carrera ‘Glassbox’ in a Chronograph. Available in two styles: blue dial and blue calfskin strap or black and silver ‘reverse panda’ dial. Both models pay homage to some of the most sought-after Carreras from the ’60s, with the blue dial and blue calfskin strap model taking inspiration from the famous Carrera 2447S, and the black and silver ‘reverse panda’ dial model being a nod to the Carrera 3147N. These 39mm chronographs feature a new style of domed sapphire crystal that reflects the dimensions of the classic Heuer Carrera chronographs from the 1960s. The domed sapphire glass box case has double anti-reflective treatment, ensuring readability in any environment. These new chronographs showcase the Carrera’s classic cool and demonstrate TAG Heuer’s continued commitment to innovative design.

TAG Heuer also released a new batch of Carrera chronographs that pay homage to the original 1963 Heuer Carrera. These chronographs feature blue or black dials, stainless steel cases, and calfskin straps. The round case, integrated lugs, and ergonomic chronograph pushers give the watch a classic and timeless feel. For a bold and vibrant touch, the watch incorporates splashes of orange and red across the dial, evoking the sound of a race car revving up.

As TAG Heuer celebrates its 60th anniversary, it unveils the new Carrera Date, which boasts a slimmer profile and redesigned crown and bracelet for ultimate comfort. The watch is powered by the new Calibre 7 Automatic movement that delivers a 56-hour power reserve. The Carrera Date is available in four different dial colours, including deep blue, pastel green, warm silver, and bright pink. The watch is a testament to TAG Heuer’s dedication to craftsmanship and attention to detail.

In addition to the Carrera collection, TAG Heuer also released the Aquaracer Professional 200 watch in a luxurious 18-karat yellow gold colourway. It is equipped with a new automatic manufacture movement that boasts an 80-hour power reserve and a five-year warranty. This watch is perfect for the adventurous and style-conscious wearer who appreciates both quality and aesthetics.

TAG Heuer also released a new Formula 1 Chronograph x Gulf watch that embodies the brand’s passion for motorsports. This timepiece features Gulf’s iconic blue and orange stripes, creating a bold and sporty aesthetic that is sure to appeal to racing enthusiasts. The watch is designed with the Formula 1 racing driver in mind, with a 43mm case, a ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale, and a chronograph function that can measure elapsed time up to 1/10th of a second. The watch is powered by a Swiss quartz movement and is finished with a stainless-steel bracelet for added durability. Whether on the track or on the wrist, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Gulf is a true legend.

TUDOR
TUDOR’s new watch collections presented at Watches and Wonders 2023 are a testament to the brand’s commitment to marrying its heritage with modern innovation.
The Black Bay line continues to be a favourite among watch enthusiasts, and TUDOR has added to its existing line with the Black Bay, a new version of the famous divers’ watch. This model features a burgundy bezel, evolved design elements, and is Master Chronometer-certified by METAS.

Another new addition to the Black Bay line, the Black Bay 54, pays tribute to the brand’s first-ever dive watch launched back in 1954. This timepiece features a 37mm case, a Manufacture Calibre MT5400, and a 200m depth rating, combining classic proportions with modern technical advancements.

The Black Bay GMT line has also been expanded with a new whimsical dial in opaline that matches the unique burgundy and blue bezel. The watch boasts a steadfast Manufacture Calibre and the ability to establish local time without losing sight of the time in two other time zones. The Black Bay 31/36/39/41 in steel with a fixed bezel offers a versatile, unisex chic aesthetic and comes in four sizes with a five-link bracelet and clasp with rapid adjustment.

The TUDOR Royal range, known for its affordability and sport-chic design, welcomes two new dial variants in chocolate brown and salmon. Both dials feature applied Roman numeral hour markers or a combination of applied numerals and diamond-set hour markers. The range continues to impress with its integrated metal bracelet, notched or diamond-set bezel, and automatic movement.

Zenith
At Watches and Wonders, Zenith showcased its latest collections, each embodying the brand’s commitment to innovation and excellence.
The Pilot collection features the Pilot Big Date Flyback, a timepiece that captures the spirit of aviation pioneers with its durability, legibility, and intuitive design. The collection also includes a chronograph reference, which uses the new El Primero 3600 calibre with additional functions designed specifically for the Pilot Big Date Flyback. With contemporary design elements and subtle nods to aviation, the Pilot collection is a call to chase your dreams and reach for the stars.

The DEFY Skyline and DEFY Skyline Skeleton are the latest additions to the DEFY line, which was first introduced in 1969. These watches are crafted entirely in black ceramic, giving them a sleek, modern look that’s as visually outstanding as it is resilient. Powered by the latest generation of the El Primero high-frequency calibre, these watches continue the DEFY legacy of rugged, boldly designed wristwatches. The DEFY Skyline and DEFY Skyline Skeleton are available with black ceramic bracelets, adding to their edgy style.

The DEFY Revival Shadow is a modern creation that reimagines the very first DEFY silhouette from 1969 in a vintage silhouette with a contemporary twist. The watch combines a vintage silhouette with contemporary accents, incorporating dark tones and muted textures to honour the historic model’s heritage while adding modern flair. Like the Chronomaster Revival Shadow before it, the DEFY Revival Shadow offers a unique take on a classic timepiece, showcasing Zenith’s commitment to innovation and creativity.

Panerai
Panerai unveiled an exciting new addition to its Radiomir collection at Watches and Wonders. The collection’s iconic cushion-shaped case and wire lugs are still present, but the brand has introduced several unique variations. The new models showcase a range of materials, colours, and complications, making them a true standout in the formal watch market. Panerai enthusiasts, known as Paneristi, have longed for a reinvention of classic pieces with modern innovations, and the brand has certainly delivered with these new Radiomir watches. It’s fascinating to note that the Radiomir compound, patented in 1916, was originally developed to help the watches function in the dark depths of the ocean. Overall, Panerai’s latest releases are an exciting addition to the brand’s already impressive line-up.

ORIS
Oris has once again brought joy to the world of watches with their latest release, the ProPilot x Kermit Edition. This collaboration with Disney celebrates the iconic character of Kermit the Frog from The Muppet Show. The watch features a green dial, a nod to Kermit’s signature colour, and a unique feature that will surely make any wearer smile. On the first day of every month, or ‘Kermit Day,’ the cheerful face of Kermit pops up in the date window. This watch is a pure expression of joy, and Oris has once again succeeded in creating a timepiece that brings a smile to the faces of watch enthusiasts everywhere.

Among their new releases was also the Aquis Date Diamonds, their first watch with a dial and bezel set with lab-grown diamonds. The 1.2 carats of diamonds are set into a 41.5mm stainless steel case with a striking cherry red dial, and comes with either a stainless steel bracelet or a cherry red rubber strap. It’s water-resistant to 30 bar (300 metres), making it perfect for the adventure-seeking watch lover.
Another standout piece is the Aquis Date Calibre 400, a high-performance mechanical diving watch. This year, Oris has introduced a version with a gradient green dial and green ceramic bezel insert, adding a touch of elegance to its rugged design. The watch features a 43.5mm stainless steel case, screw-down crown with protection, uni-directional rotating bezel for timing dives, and luminescent hands and hour markers. It’s powered by the Oris Calibre 400, which boasts a five-day power reserve, 10-year warranty, and anti-magnetic properties. The watch is also water-resistant to 30 bar (300 metres), perfect for those who love to explore the depths of the ocean.
Overall, Oris has once again proven its commitment to innovative and elegant designs, utilising the latest technology and expert craftsmanship to create watches that are both stylish and functional.

Montblanc
Montblanc made a splash at the Watches and Wonders event in Geneva with the release of multiple stunning timepieces that pay tribute to the world’s highest peaks and the brave mountaineers who dare to conquer them.
The 41mm Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Automatic Date has a glacier-inspired dial using an ancestral technique called gratté-boisé and comes with a stainless-steel interchangeable bracelet and a black rubber strap.

The 42mm Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen The 8000 is a tribute to the alpinists who dare to climb the world’s highest peaks under extreme conditions. The timepiece is housed in a 42mm titanium case that is totally devoid of oxygen, ensuring greater precision and longevity of the movement. Featuring a Manufacture Worldtime complication and fluted bi-directional black ceramic bezel with luminescent cardinal points.
Finally, the Montblanc 1858 Automatic Date 0 Oxygen The 8000 is a 41mm stainless steel timepiece that pays homage to the brave mountaineers who venture to the world’s highest peak. This timepiece is totally devoid of oxygen, ensuring greater longevity and precision of the movement. It features a dark grey Sfumato glacier patterned dial, and an interchangeable tapered stainless-steel bracelet with a fine adjustment system.
All three watches are a testament to Montblanc’s commitment to craftsmanship and excellence.
